How to Care for Euphyllia Coral in a Home Aquarium
Euphyllia corals—like hammer, torch, and frogspawn—are popular LPS corals known for their flowing tentacles and vibrant colors. To keep them healthy:
-
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is ideal. LEDs work well to bring out their color and support growth.
-
Flow: Provide moderate, indirect water flow. Strong, direct flow can damage their delicate polyps.
-
Placement: Give them plenty of space from other corals to avoid stinging. Mid to lower tank levels usually work well.
-
Feeding: While they rely on photosynthesis, occasional feedings of small meaty foods like mysis or brine shrimp can boost growth.
-
Water Parameters: Maintain stable reef conditions—temperature 75–80°F, salinity 1.024–1.026, calcium 400–450 ppm, alkalinity 8–12 dKH, and magnesium 1250–1350 ppm.
With the right environment, Euphyllia corals thrive and bring movement and color to any reef tank.
