How to Care for Cynarina Coral in a Home Aquarium

Cynarina corals, also known as meat or doughnut corals, are large, fleshy LPS corals loved for their dramatic expansion and vivid colors.

  • Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal—too much light can cause tissue recession.

  • Flow: Low to moderate, indirect flow helps keep them clean without damaging their delicate tissue.

  • Placement: Place on a soft sand bed or smooth rock with space around them to expand fully.

  • Feeding: Regular feedings of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or coral pellets help them grow and maintain vibrant color.

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable reef tank conditions—temperature 75–80°F, salinity 1.024–1.026, calcium 400–450 ppm, alkalinity 8–12 dKH, and magnesium 1250–1350 ppm.

With gentle care and space to thrive, Cynarina corals make a bold and beautiful addition to any reef aquarium.
