How to Care for Fungia Plate Coral in a Home Aquarium
Fungia plate corals are hardy and colorful LPS (Large Polyp Stony) corals that make a great addition to reef tanks. To care for them:
-
Lighting: Moderate to high light is best. Use LED, T5, or metal halide lighting for optimal coloration and growth.
-
Flow: Provide low to moderate water flow. Too much flow can damage their soft tissue.
-
Placement: Place them on the sandy bottom of the tank. They can move slightly, so give them space.
-
Feeding: While they get nutrients from photosynthesis, they benefit from occasional feedings of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or reef roids.
-
Water Parameters: Keep stable conditions—temperature 75–80°F, salinity 1.023–1.025, calcium 400–450 ppm, alkalinity 8–12 dKH, and magnesium 1250–1350 ppm.
With proper care, Fungia corals can thrive and add stunning visual appeal to your reef aquarium.
